Gary L. Brindle, 63, of Nokesville, Virginia passed away on Saturday, February 6, at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington,VA. Gary was born on September 25, 1952 in Chambersburg, PA. He is predeceased by his parents, Kenneth E. Brindle and Ruth C. Myers Brindle, and sister, Carol Geisler. He grew up on the family farm in Fannettsburg and graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he was a member of the Pershing Rifles Military Fraternity. He went on to earn his Master’s Degree of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. He retired from the US Army after 22 years of service attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After his retirement he worked for several Defense Contractors as a Systems Engineer and Project Manager. Gary enjoyed restoring classic Porsches, belonged to the local Porsche Club where he was a past secretary and rally chairman. He coached youth soccer for 15 years, was a certified soccer referee, and was President of the Virginia Soccer Association. He leaves his wife of 40 years, Cheryl A. Brindle; children Jonathan (Laura) Brindle of Warrenton, VA, and Kristin (Joel) Thomas of Mechanicsburg, PA; grandchildren Alison and Alivia Brindle of Warrenton and four brothers James A., and wife, Valinda L. of Lantana, TX, Richard L., and wife, Linda K. of Pleasant Hall, PA, Ray E., and wife, Donna M. of Shippensburg, PA, and Rodney K., and wife, Freda L. of Fort Loudon, PA.
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Menno Sollenberger officiating. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow in Pleasant Hall Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 15305 Vint Hill Road, Nokesville, VA with Rev. Don Meeks officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bull Run Warrior Retreat, 16013 Waterfall Rd, Haymarket, VA, 20169, a local retreat center for recovering wounded veterans.
