Gene Minerva Beahm McCleary died Monday, July 18th at the Shook Home, Chambersburg, PA. When she was an infant, her parents Strother Washington and Irma Berry Beahm moved from Clover Hill, VA to Waynesboro, PA. Gene graduated from Waynesboro High School in the class of 1940. She married Irvin B. McCleary, Jr., April 14th, 1945 and they had two sons, Irvin B. McCleary III and Dale E. McCleary. Gene was an operator with United Telephone, she worked for Usherman Realty and at Landis Machine Co. where she met her future husband. After raising her children she worked with her life-long friends the Ingels at Eicholtz Flowers. For many years she volunteered for the Quincy Home Auxiliary, was part of the Eastern Stars and served as a Lioness.
She is survived by her two sons, daughters-in-law Christine (Stoner) and Patricia (Komorowski), three grandchildren; Brock McCleary of York, PA, Kathryn McCleary, PHD of Madison, WI, and Sean McCleary of Durango, CO. She is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Harper McCleary (daughter of Brock and Nicole McCleary), and by her sister Alma and niece Virginia, both of Philadelphia, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2012.
A private family service will be held in her honor. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
