George Baughman

George J. “Jack” Baughman Jr., 89, also fondly remembered as “Mr. B”, formerly of 421 Terrilynn Drive, Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday evening, February 9, 2015 at Providence Place in Chambersburg. Born December 7, 1925 in Fayetteville, he was a son of the late George J. Baughman, Sr. and Grace Kling Baughman. A US Army veteran of WWII, Mr. Baughman served in Hawaii as a Heavy Duty Mechanic. He owned and operated the former A & B Garage in Chambersburg in partnership with his brother Norman. The brothers dissolved their partnership in 1980 and Jack became the owner and operator of Interstate Truck Equipment in Hagerstown, MD, where he was an authorized Mack Truck dealer. He retired in January of 1991. He was a long-time member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Chambersburg where he was active with the In Gathering program. He was one of the founders of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Waynesboro and was a life member of the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Deparment and held membership in Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, and AMVETS Post 224, all in Chambersburg as well as the Maryland Motor Truck Association and American Truck Dealers. Mr. and Mrs. Baughman enjoyed wintering in Orlando, Florida for 30 years. Following his retirement he was an avid woodcraftsman, crafting furniture and other wooden models. He was a diehard fan of the Washington Redskins.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Doris Elliott Baughman, whom he married July 27, 1947; his son, Rob R. Baughman and wife Debra of Chambersburg; three daughters, Beverly Brookens and husband Denny of Fayetteville, Vicki Wagaman and husband Kenny of Fayetteville, and Susan Furry and husband Jeff of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Leon Baughman; and his sister June Rhone, both of Fayetteville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Norman, and his sister, Janice “Sue” Hayes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 13, 2014 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Preston Monterrey and Rev. David House officiating. Entombment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
