George Coldsmith

George E. Coldsmith, 84, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, November 24, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Born April 22, 1928 in Marion, PA, he was a son of the late Charles Oliver and Laura Grace Harmon Coldsmith. After graduation from the former Chambersburg High School he enlisted in the US Navy near the end of WWII where he served under Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd on the final expedition to the Antarctic. He was employed by the United Telephone Company in Chambersburg following his discharge from the Navy and later retired from the former J. Schoeneman Company in Chambersburg after more than forty years of service. George was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, a life member of BPO Elks Lodge 600, and a member of the the Marine Corps League, all in Chambersburg. He was an avid fisherman and greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Stains Coldsmith, whom he married October 10, 1948; three children, Jeffrey A. Coldsmith and wife Darlene, Robert L. Coldsmith, and Susan R. Henry and husband Daniel, all of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by three brothers, Donald Coldsmith and wife Joann, Harold Coldsmith and wife Mary, and Gary Coldsmith, all of Chambersburg; as well as his sister, Goldie Randolph and husband John, also of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George Dennis Coldsmith on October 24, 2002; and a sister, Louetta Reasner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, November 29, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Rick Noll officiating. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday and 9:00-10:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
