George L. Cowley, 71, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born December 13, 1944, in McKeesport, PA, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Nelle Mehrman Cowley.
George was a 1962 graduate of the former Duquesne High School. He later earned his B.S. in Education from Clarion University in 1966 and his Master of Education degree from Shippensburg University in 1970. George was employed as a teacher first at the former Faust Junior High School in Chambersburg then at CAMS South until his retirement in 1996 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg. George enjoyed reading, listening to music, cooking, volunteering and sat on the Board of Chambersburg Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anne Moore Cowley, whom he married on June 26, 1971; two children, David A. Cowley of Chambersburg, and Leslie Lehman and husband John of Waynesboro; and two grandchildren, Addisyn and Jarren Lehman.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way W., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Pastor Scott Bowerman will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM on Tuesday at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
