George Herbert

George Henry Herbert, age 78, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on December 28, 2021. It was a long journey of loss due to progressive supranuclear palsy. Born December 23, 1943 in Lewistown, PA, he was one of five children born to Frank E. and Alma Herbert.

George was a man dedicated to God, his family, and his country. He served in the Navy from 1961 to 1964, being stationed in Bermuda during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an active member of King Street Church, participating in multiple mission trips, serving for 20 years in the Sunday School Primary department and Board of Administration, and starting the senior group, Primetimers. He loved sailing, buying his dream boat Fine-Ahh-Lee after his retirement from working at Martin & Martin Engineering for 26 years.

George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret; children Jeannine (Troy) Hostetter, Frank (Robin) Herbert, Denice (Ryan) Bigham; and 8 grandchildren, Roman, Jacob, Megan, Noah, Magdelyn, Coraline, Frank “Ellis”, and Hannah. He is also survived by his siblings, David Herbert, Rebecca Hoover and Robert Herbert. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank E. and Alma Herbert and brother Frank B. Herbert.

Services will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be sent to SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice at 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg PA 17202.
