George Pensinger Jr., 81, of St. Thomas, died unexpectedly Friday, November 18, 2011. Born November 9, 1930 in St. Thomas, he was a son of the late George and Edna (Spidel) Pensinger. George was a 1948 graduate of the former St. Thomas High School and was employed at the former James River Company in Chambersburg from 1966 until retiring in 1993. For the past five years he was employed by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc.
He was a member of the Chambersburg First Church of God, its Ever Faithful Sunday School Class, and Senior Life. He served on the Mission Board at the church for eighteen years. George was also a member of the Frontier County Gun Club and the Pennsylvania Southern Gospel Music Association. He enjoyed camping, attending gospel sings, bowling, and hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Peggy (Gearhart) Pensinger, whom he married on December 22, 1950 in Chambersburg; their sons, Randy D. Pensinger and wife Penny of Shippensburg, and Michael R. Pensinger and wife Theresa of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Shawn Pensinger, Doug Carbaugh, Lance Pensinger, Casey Pensinger, Michelle Wagner, and Michael Pensinger, Jr.; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a brother, Glen Pensinger and wife Betty of Mechanicsburg. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Randy Pensinger Jr. and Jason Pensinger; and a sister, Betty Frank.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday November 23, 2011 at the Chambersburg First Church of God with Rev. Earl Mills and Rev. Lester Swope officiating. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and from 10-11:00 AM Wednesday at the church.
