George Pensinger

George H. Pensinger, 63, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, January 10, 2015 at his home. Born April 15, 1952 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late John T. and Mabel M. Hess Pensinger. George was a 1970 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a minor in voice and percussion from Shepherd University. Early in his life he managed several area restaurants and owned and operated a glass company. He was currently President and CEO of Manito Transportation Services, Inc. George was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chambersburg where he had served as a Deacon as well as an Elder and Trustee with the consistory. He sang with the church choir; led the youth choir; actively participated in the contemporary service; and played for many years with the band called Ebenezer. He enjoyed cooking at the church camp and also on church mission trips. For fifteen years he orchestrated the church’s Celebrate Christmas performance. A percussionist and vocalist, he had a passion for music and sang at many weddings and funerals. In his early years he taught drum corps. George sang with the Towne Singers for more than twenty years including numerous local performances and several tours throughout Europe. He also sang from time to time with the Mercersburg Community Chorus. He was good at building things and enjoyed carpentry. George was an inspiration to many and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Christine M. Cressler Pensinger, whom he married October 14, 1979; three children, Elizabeth M. Hornbaker and husband Jordan of Chambersburg, John A. Pensinger of New Cumberland, and Matthew T. Pensinger of Chambersburg; his grandson, Jaden S. Hornbaker; and his sister, Linda Horner and husband Jack of Chambersburg.

A service to celebrate George’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Mark Ruzicka will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at a luncheon at the church. Burial will be private.
