George Porter

George Carl Porter, age 71, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born January 13, 1947, he was the son of Genevieve Louise Swartz Porter and the late Galen Leroy Porter.
Mr. Porter earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1968 from Huntington College, Huntington, IN in Elementary Education and his Master’s in Counseling from Shippensburg University. Mr. Porter taught in the Greencastle-Antrim School District for 30 years, retiring in 1998. He also worked part-time at Sunrise Computers and Porter’s furniture. He was a member of King Street Church, the NRA, the Winnebago International Travelers, and a past member of the EAA.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Souders Porter, whom he married August 19, 1972; a brother in law, Ray Souders (wife Karen) of Hanover, PA; a niece, Shelly Eyster (husband Shawn) of Dillsburg, PA; a nephew, Philip Souders (wife Jennifer) of Athens, MI; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; and Paterson, his faithful dog.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018, at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Ron Cook and Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd. West, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to Prince Street United Brethren Church, 20 N Prince St., Shippensburg, PA 17257 or to the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
