George Wend, 94, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Chambers Pointe Health Care Center. Born August 12, 1929 in New York City, New York, he was the son of the late Milton and Lara Wend.
A 1947 graduate of High Mowing School in New Hampshire, George then attended college at St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD. For a period of time following college, he worked for Applied Technology Labs in Silver Spring, MD, before honorably serving in the US Navy. Following his service, he earned his Master’s degree in Engineering from Duke University in Durham, NC. He continued his career working for Westinghouse Defense and Electronic Systems Center in Linthicum and Hunt Valley, MD. George was also an avid reader and even had his own personal library at his residence. He was also a collector of antique instruments.
George is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Stevenson Wend; two sons, David Wend of ME and Douglas Wend of NC; one granddaughter, Savannah Wend; sister, Dorthea Rose of CA and Nadia Vogel of NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Gertrude Wend; and step-siblings David and Jared Wend and Kaye Miller.
