George Warren Williams, Jr., a decorated World War II veteran, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at his home in Menno Village, Chambersburg, PA. Born on June 30, 1926 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George and Thelma Rollins Williams, and grew up in East Conemaugh.
Following his service in the U. S. Army, he married Phyllis Louise Meckley. They settled in East Taylor Township, Cambria County and raised their family of four children: Dr. Larry James Williams and wife Carol of Pittsburgh, PA; Keith Lynn Williams and wife Donna of Colorado Springs, CO; Lynne Janel Wenrick and husband Dennis of Chambersburg, PA; and Kimberly Louise Snyder of Dallas, Texas.
A craftsman in many trades, George retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation after 35 years as an electrician. He was active in his local church and spent much time supporting Boy Scouting programs. In later years he and his wife moved to Chambersburg to be near family.
He is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 65 years, whom he married on November 30, 1948; his four children, 9 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Ronald Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment services with military honors provided by Maj. General Charles T. Menoher V.F.W. Post 155 will be on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 1530 Frankstown Road, Johnstown, PA.
