Gerald L. Black, 75, of Chambersburg, PA, entered his Heavenly home Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Born June 29, 1940 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Walter and Viola Rice Black. Gerald co-owned and co-operated Black Brothers Lumber where he could often be found operating the log loader truck and running the saw at the mill. He enjoyed more than fifty years in the lumber industry. Gerald was an active member of Salem United Brethren Church. He loved his grandchildren and one of his last requests was that his grandchildren continue their faith in the Lord. He enjoyed spending time with his family and taking walks on his farm. He will be missed and remembered by many as a kind and giving man who was an ethical and upstanding member of the community.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Fix Black, whom he married November 1, 2002; two daughters, Tonya S. Stoner and husband David and Lisa S. Myers and husband Steven; six grandchildren, Lexi and Logan Stoner, Kendra, Kyle, Ashlyn, and Clay Myers; his sister, Vera Amsley, brother Chester Black and wife Pat, and twin sister JoAnn Walck; three sisters-in-laws, Dorothy Black, Pauline Black, and Kay Black, all of Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores Rice Black in 1996; four brothers, John, Kenneth, Marlin “Beanie”, and Ronald Black; and two sisters, Esther Bricker and Ruth Wagaman.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until services begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Salem United Brethren Church, 4349 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Art Page will officiate. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery.
