Gerald Saber

Gerald L. Saber, age 81, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born in Montoursville, PA on July 12, 1931, he was the son of the late Anthony J. and Marie Butz Saber.
A U.S. Army veteran during the Korean conflict, Jerry was a member of the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. Jerry worked for the PA Department of Agriculture in the inspection service, worked with his father at the Garden Corner Nursery prior to working in sales for over 25 years for H.C. Gabler Trucking and he was self-employed in outdoor advertising prior to retirement. Jerry was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Chambersburg Club. Jerry always enjoyed golfing and fishing with his friends.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Patsy Gabler Saber, whom he married on November 8, 1958; four children, Chris Mayer of Shippensburg, PA; Tim Saber (wife Shelley Ray) of Chambersburg, PA; Dan Saber (wife Samantha) of Murrells Inlet, SC; and Laura Egnaczyk (husband John) of Leonardtown, MD; and eight grandchildren, Dave and Weston Mayer, Zach and Taylor Saber, Patrick and Spencer Saber, and Garrett and Sean Egnaczyk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly “Happy” Wallis.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 1:00 PM in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201; where Pastor Rick Noll will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
