Gerald S. “Jerry” Shaffer, age 77, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away in the Chambersburg Hospital on Monday, March 3, 2014. Born March 25, 1936 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Gerald C. and Margaret Hoy Shaffer.
A 1954 graduate of the Waynesboro Area Senior High School, Jerry went on to join the U.S. Army, where he served honorably until 1959, when he left active duty and joined the reserves for another 6 years. Jerry worked for Grove Manufacturing for 22 years as a Quality Control Supervisor and later for Wilson College in the maintenance department until his retirement in 1998. An avid outdoorsman, Jerry enjoyed hunting and going to Ridge, MD with his wife fishing the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed golfing and going to Penn State Football games. Jerry was a member of the Acacia Lodge #586 F. & A.M. in Waynesboro, PA, Harrisburg Consistory, VFW Post 6319 in Greencastle, PA and the American Legion Post 46, in Chambersburg, PA.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Jane Ryder Shaffer, a son, Michael R. Shaffer of Sinking Spring, PA, and two sisters, Isabel Drawbaugh of Chambersburg, PA and Treva Ebersole of Waynesboro, PA. At Jerry’s request services and interment will be private.
