Geraldine M. Showalter, 95, of Chambersburg, went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ early Sunday morning, September 2, 2018 at Penn Hall. Born May 22, 1923, in Elizabethtown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Henry R. Hoerner II and Alice B. Eshelman Hoerner. Her beloved husband, Everett M. Showalter, preceded her in death on July 16, 2013.
Gerri was a homemaker most of her adult life. She always assisted her late husband Everett in any of his church duties at Penn Hall or First United Methodist Church. They were always together hand in hand. She loved being on the move in her wheel chair at Penn Hall campus and prompted you to keep moving, saying hello to all. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Penn Hall Chapel. Gerri was always generous, kind, caring and selfless. She was cared for and loved by many at Penn Hall and was very devoted to her family.
She is survived by two children, Everett M. Showalter, Jr. of Hagerstown and David E. Showalter and wife Julie of Franklin, TN; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and three sisters. In addition to her husband and parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
A Celebration of Life Service for Geraldine will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Penn Hall Chapel. A reception will follow the service. Chaplain Brenda Doyle will officiate. A private interment will be held at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. It was Gerri’s request that any memorial contributions be made to the Menno Haven/Penn Hall Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Condolences and memories may be shared on her Book of Memories page at www.geiselfuneralhome.com
