Gertrude Elder

Gertrude Elder, 97, of Chambersburg, died on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Providence Place. She was born February 14, 1920 in New York City. Her beloved husband, Wilson H. Elder, whom she married on January 24, 1948, preceded her in death on September 19, 2006.

Early in her life Gertrude was employed at the St. Barnabas Hospital Medical Library in Bronx, NY. She later was employed as a secretary at Letterkenny Army Depot, but most of her adult life she was a homemaker. Gertrude loved classical music, the opera, researching her family history and reading. A member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, she was very dedicated to her Catholic faith.

Surviving are six children, John J. of Chambersburg, Catherine M. Kelley of St. Thomas, Cecelia T. Weber of Leesburg, VA, Mark C. of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Patrick R. and Clare R. Elder, both of Chambersburg; 3 grandsons, Brian J., Christopher A. and Joseph J. Elder; and five great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 16, 2018, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. The Very Reverend Fr. Luis R. Rodriguez VF will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Corpus Christi Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
