Gertrude P. Giorgini, 76, of Chambersburg, PA, died Thursday evening, March 14, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. Born March 1, 1937 in Media, PA, she was a daughter of the late William E. J. and Clara Little Platt. Mrs. Giorgini attended Nativity B.V.M. Parochial School and Notre Dame High School in Moylan, Rose Valley, PA. She married John D. Giorgini of Lenni, PA on November 12, 1955. In time they were parents of eight children, six girls and two boys. The family lived in the Chester, PA area prior to moving to Chambersburg. She retired in 1999 from the Tuscarora Area School District where she had been employed as the Food Service Director for twenty-three years. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church where she sang with the church choir and also with a vocal group known as The Angels. Mrs. Giorgini was a member and Past President of the Corpus Christi Women’s Club, and a member and Past President of the Pennsylvania School Food Service Association. She loved reading and traveling.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John D. Giorgini; eight children, Elizabeth Martin and husband John of Chambersburg, Marie Bowers and husband Brian of Chambersburg, Susan Palmer and husband Gregg of Lancaster, PA, Mary Jo Heckman and husband Chuck of Harrisonburg, VA, Rosemarie Thompson and husband Dale of Chambersburg, Joan Heinbaugh and husband Alan of Hampden, ME, John Giorgini and wife Barbra of Chambersburg, and William Giorgini and wife Kristine of Vashon Island, WA; fourteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Sister William Clair OSF of Aston, PA and Sister Elizabeth Platt COC of Auburn, ME; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, William R. and Lawrence A. Platt; a sister, Claire Frances Platt; and a granddaughter, Katie Jo Beck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James R. O’Brien at 10:00 AM Monday, March 18, 2013 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg. Interment will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA.
