Gilbert Miller

Gilbert Eugene Miller, 59, of Scotland, PA, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at the Shook Home. Born April 4, 1953 in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of Ednor G. Miller of Chambersburg and the late Doris J. Bigler Miller. Gil was a 1971 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Shippensburg University in 1998. He was a licensed US Merchant Marine Officer, Master Inland Steam/Motor or Auxiliary Sail Vessels not more than 100 gross tons and was currently employed by the Harrisburg River Boat Society where he served as Captain of the Pride of the Susquehanna for the past 24 years. He has been employed for the past 13 years in Group Sales Operation at Whitetail Mountain Resort. Gil had previously worked as an Optician alongside his father at their family business, Fashion Eyewear, in Chambersburg. He had been employed by the Living Classrooms Foundation serving as Captain of the Minnie V and Crew Chief of the Constellation on the Chesapeake Bay and previously served as Captain of the Outward Bound. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where he served as Choir Director for 30 years. An accomplished musician, he was a member of the Towne Singers in Chambersburg. Gil had a lifelong passion for learning and a great love of boats. He and his wife enjoyed sailing for the past 35 years and were members of the Frog Mortar Yacht Club in Middle River, MD.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his loving wife, Linda McGehee Miller, whom he married June 1, 1975; his step-mother, Evelyn “Bib” Hill Miller; his Uncle and Aunt, Harry and Nancy Leonard of Mechanicsburg, Brother and Sister-in-laws Jon and Sherry (McGehee) Jones; nephew Matthew and Laura (Whetstone) Jones; and great niece, Ella Jones. Aside from his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ednor and Florence Miller and Harry and Clara Leonard; and his Father and Mother-in-laws, Wally and Marion McGehee.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 27, 2012 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Richard Seaks officiating. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9-11:00 AM Saturday at the church.
