Gladys S. Ewan, 89, of Chambersburg, PA, died Wednesday evening, June 12, 2013 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 4, 1924 in Cove Gap, PA, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Elsie Mellott Briggs. Gladys worked as a nurse’s aide at the former Guilford Convalescent Home, the former Piney Mountain Nursing Home, and as a private nurse. She enjoyed reading, flowers, and watching The Weather Channel.

She is survived by three children, Rev. Samuel Hose of Austin, TX, Brenda G. Marshall and husband John of Antlers, OK, and Michael A. Ewan and wife Jackie of Chambersburg; two step-sons, Raymond Ewan and wife Louella of Chambersburg, and William (Bill) Ewan and wife Edith of Chambersburg; eleven grandchildren, Howard Clever, Daniel Clever, Stephen Clever, Cletus Clever, Susan Myers, John Marshall, II, David Marshall, Jody Marshall, Jarrett Johnson, Cody Ewan, and Cade Ewan; twelve great grandchildren; step-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Cletus D. Ewan; one daughter, Reva Jean Fry; a half-sister, Zelda Briggs; and a half-brother, Mark Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Terry Hoke officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Gladys’ name to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
