Gladys Sleighter

Gladys V. Holstay Sleighter, age 91, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at Menno Haven Penn Hall on Monday, December 16, 2013. Born April 16, 1922 in St. Thomas, PA, she was the daughter of the late John Holstay and the late Margaret Laughlin Holstay.
Mrs. Sleighter was a homemaker most of her life, having been married for 63 years to Irvin R. Sleighter, Jr. whom preceded her in death in 2012. She was a member of the Chambersburg First Church of God for more than 46 years. In addition, she taught children in Sunday School, sang in the choir and taught Good News Club through Child Evangelism Fellowship.
Surviving are her three children, Carol A. Shew (Rev. Dr. Gary) of New Bloomfield, PA, Irvin R. Sleighter III (Beverly) of Chambersburg, PA, and Robert E. Sleighter (Debrah) of Waynesboro, PA, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, David and Nelson Holstay; and two sisters, Ellen Atherton and Ethel Holstay.
Family and Friends are welcome to attend Graveside services at 11AM on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, 3218 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor Stanley Darrah and Chaplain Brenda Doyle will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
