Glen L. Cump, 99, formerly of Greencastle, PA, died Friday afternoon, August 30, 2013 at Penn Hall Nursing Center. Born June 6, 1914 in Marion, PA, he was a son of the late Roy L. and Anna Cordell Cump. A 1932 graduate of the Greencastle High School, Glen served with the US Navy during WWII. Early in his life he had been employed at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown and with the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He then worked at the former Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown and retired as an agent with MetLife. He was a member of Frank L. Carbaugh Post 373 American Legion in Greencastle, the Kittochtinny Historical Society, and was active with the Allison-Antrim Museum in Greencastle. He authored a book on the history of the Brown’s Mill School. He was a long-time member of Grace United Church of Christ and most recently attended services at the Penn Hall Chapel. His beloved wife, Margaret C. Sellers Cump, preceded him in death on October 18, 2001.
He is survived by his son, Dennis L. Cump and wife Judith K. of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren, Denise McLucas, Tina Klenzing, Becky Cump, Jodi Pyle, Timothy McKenrick, Carrie McKenrick Keefer, and Sean McKenrick twelve great grandchildren, Andrew McLucas, Carley Leibowitz, Emma McLucas, Joshua, Jordan, and Jamie Klenzing, Sarah Cump, Alexander and Jenna Pyle, Amanda Keefer, Ian McKenrick, and Justin McKenrick; four great-great grandchildren, Camden and Blake Klenzing, Gage McCarthy, and Jackson McLucas; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two sisters-in-laws, Pearl (wife of the late Paul) Cump of Hagerstown, MD and Judy (wife of the late Guy) Cump of Altoona, PA. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharlet McKenrick, a sister, Helen Crist; and two brothers, Paul A. and Guy H. Cump
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Chaplain Robert Keener officiating. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow in Brown’s Mill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon – 2:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
