Glendale Smith

September 21, 1928 — November 8, 2013

Glendale B. Smith, 85, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday afternoon, November 8, 2013 in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 21, 1928 in Parsons, KS, he was a son of the late Glen O. and Flora Ellen Critcher Smith. Mr. Smith was a 1946 graduate of the Anacostia High School in Washington, DC. He served with the US Navy from 1947-1952 and upon his discharge from the military went on to receive a degree in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Polytechnical Institute, Blacksburg, VA, in 1958. He was last employed at T.B. Woods Sons, Inc., Chambersburg, PA. An active member of Lions Clubs International since 1969, he was a member and Past President of the Chambersburg Evening Lions Club. During his lifetime he coached numerous youth activities and was involved with Boy Scouts of America. His hobbies included tennis, square dancing, playing Bridge, and spending time with his family.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of sixty years, Betty J. Atwell Smith, whom he married October 24, 1953; three children, Douglas D. Smith and wife Elizabeth of Chesapeake, VA, Linda D. Barnhart and husband Jeff of Hagerstown, MD, and Cynthia A. Ayars and husband Bradley of Lititz, PA; and seven grandchildren, Jason Smith and wife Hillary, Kevin Smith, Abigail and Tyler Barnhart, William, Samuel, and Karen Ayars. He is also survived by two brothers, Delbert Smith of Temple Hills, MD and Ronald Smith and wife Marie of The Villages, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Pastor Linda Warehime officiating. Family interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
