Glenn E. Beecher, Sr., age 85, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away at his home on Friday, May 27, 2016, surrounded by his family. Born March 17, 1931, in Jacksonville, PA, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Pearl Margarent Jones Beecher.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Beecher served honorably during the Korean Conflict. He was the founder and former owner for 50 years of Beecher’s Auto Salvage, until 2007. Mr. Beecher was also the owner and operator of Boss’s Outlet in Fayetteville, PA. Community minded, Mr. Beecher was a founding member of the Fayetteville Ruritan, he was also a member of the George Washington Lodge No. 143, the Harrisburg Consistory, American Legion Post 46, and Marine Corps League. He enjoyed helping others and classic cars.
Surviving is his wife 62 years, Emma Beecher, whom he married on November 26, 1953; three children, Bonnie Shaffer of Greencastle, PA, Glenn E. Beecher, Jr. of Fayetteville, PA, and Laurie Fiddesop of St. Thomas, PA; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Mike and Ed Beecher of Carlisle, PA, James Beecher of Fayetteville, PA, and Winifred Beam of Carlisle, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Randy and William Beecher.
Funeral services will be held in his honor on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at 11 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Terry Hoke will officiate. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 6 – 9 PM and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, where military honors will be performed by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Fayetteville Fire Company, 101 W. Main St., Fayetteville, PA 17222 or the Food Pantry at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 44 East Main St. Fayetteville, PA 17222.
