Glenn Elwood Deardorff Sr, 87 of Fayetteville, PA passed away peacefully in the Chambersburg Hospital after declining health over the past few months. Glenn was born February 4,1934 in Chambersburg, PA. He was the son of the late Paul K. and Mabel E. (Martin) Deardorff. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dolores J. (Overcash) Deardorff and infant daughter, Stacy.
He is survived by his children: Glenn Deardorff, Jr. and wife Nancy of Chambersburg, Cynthia Minehart and husband William of Dover, PA, Jacqueline Stenger and husband Shawn of Chambersburg, and Darren Deardorff and partner Julie Ammerman of Chambersburg. He was affectionally known as “Candy Pappy” to his 10 grandchildren: Christine, Rachelle, Laura, Tiffany, Eric, Will, Tom, Jessica, Kaleigh and Lindsey; and 26 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Lucille Meyers of Dover, PA, Jean Monn of Chambersburg, and Janet Campbell of FL; and brothers: Robert Deardorff and Donald Deardorff both of Chambersburg, along with Michael Childs, a dear family friend who Glenn and Dolores helped raise.
Glenn will be remembered as a prominent business man. Although “retired”, up until recently he was still working at the same job he had since he was 23 years old; his family business; Fayetteville Contractors, Inc., where he was the owner /operator. He would often be seen visiting job sites to make sure things were running according to his expectations.
Glenn was a lifetime member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren along with being on the Board of Directors at the Chambersburg Country Club for many years. While running his business, he obtained his private pilot’s license so that he could travel to different job sites. In his free time, he was an avid hunter and golfer. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and employees past and present.
A memorial service for Glenn will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, 260 S 4th Street, Chambersburg, PA where Rev. Joel Nogle will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
