Glenn W. Gabler, Sr., 67, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 2, 1955 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Robert G. and Mabel Foore Gabler. He served honorably with the US Army during the Vietnam War. Glenn will be remembered by many as the Ice Man at the former Chambersburg Cold Storage and for the past 25 years was employed at Ventura Foods. He was a member of Hume-McNeil-Byers AmVets Post 224, the Marine Corps League, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, and Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion. His hobbies included hunting, pitching horseshoes, darts, and softball. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Shaffer Gabler, whom he married September 14, 1976; his son, Glenn W. Gabler, Jr. and wife Chrystal of Chambersburg; his daughter, Kimberly Hawkins and husband Vance of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Sophia Low, Braden Sleighter, Chloe Hawkins, Brandon Gabler, and Rebecca Gabler; and six great-grandchildren, Addison Marie Gabler, Asher Gabler, Harley Gabler, Flora Barahona, Echo Barahona, and Theo Barahona. He is also survived by three brothers, Richard Foore and wife Ramona of Minnesota, Robert H. Gabler of South Dakota, and Kenneth E. Gabler and wife Sara of Greencastle; and two sisters, Nancy Woodal and husband Larry of Chambersburg and Elsie Kirkpatrick and husband Daniel “Beak” of Chambersburg.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 12, 2023 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Murray B. Stevens will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.
