Glenn Murphy

January 21, 1938 — February 5, 2015

Glenn H. Murphy, 77, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2015, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on January 21, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , he was the son of the late Mahlon John and Evelyn Murphy.

A US Navy veteran, Glenn served honorably from 1956 to 1960. After his military service, Glenn went on to work at Letterkenny Army Depot for 31 years and retired in 1993. Active in the local veteran’s community, he was a member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, the Burt J. Jasper American Legion Post 46 and the Hume McNeal Byers AMVETS Post 224, where he was a former Post Commander. Glenn’s hobbies included spending winters in Florida, taking vacations and traveling around the United States, cooking, eating, and rooting for his beloved Philadelphia sports teams, while enjoying a Cheesesteak from Geno’s.

Surviving is his wife, Toni of 46 years, whom he married on August 10, 1968; his children, Suzanne Murphy, of Chambersburg and John Murphy and his wife, Stacey, of Palm Harbor, Fl; grandchildren, Christopher Murphy, Felicia Murphy, Sloane Murphy, and Layne Murphy; great-grandchildren, Gavin Murphy and Gracelynn Murphy; and his brother-in-law and sister, Michael and Judy Sipes of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Kerry Murphy.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Glenn’s life will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Dianne Salter will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard following the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard, 747 South Fourth St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
