Glenn E. “Curly” Nye, 81, of Greencastle, passed away Sunday morning, March 19, 2017 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born, April 17, 1935 in Chambersburg, PA, he was a son of Russell and Ruth Carbaugh Nye.
Curly was a 1954 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. In his early life he worked at Hess Brothers Orchard in Five Forks, as a pin setter at Nelly Fox Bowl, and as a taxi cab driver in Chambersburg. He was employed as a printing press operator, “Pressman”, for James River for 23 years until his retirement in 1996. Curly also was the owner/operator of R & G Cards in Waynesboro. He coached and played for a Chambersburg area basketball team called the “Clowns” where they traveled and played against inmates at area prisons. Curley was also an avid bowler and was involved with different teams throughout his life. He wrote beautiful poetry and was very skilled at embroidery winning several first place ribbons at the Franklin County Fair. He attended First Assembly of God in Greencastle.
Curly is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patty Weyandt Nye, whom he married on June 30, 1956; four children, Cathy E. Baker (David) of South Mountain, Chester E. Nye (Mildred) of Greencastle, Carol E. Anderson (William, Jr.) of Greencastle and Russell E. Nye (Lorie) of Waynesboro; six grandchildren, Amanda E. Smith (Jason) of Gettysburg, Jeanette E. Violet (Wayne) of Hagerstown, MD, Heather E. Miller (Robert) of Chambersburg, Samantha E. Bowser of Hagerstown, MD, Rebecca E. Anderson of Greencastle and Emily R. Nye of Waynesboro; seven great-grandchildren, Leah, Jasmine, Marley, Jared, Ezra, Leah and Serenity; and a sister, Mae Martin of St. Thomas. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson, Steven E. Nye; and four siblings, Harold, Sonny, Lauretta and Marie.
A service to celebrate Glenn’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at First Assembly of God Greencastle, 525 East Leitersburg Street, Greencastle, PA 17225. Rev. Greg Sinclair will officiate. There will be a private viewing for his family from 9:00-10:00 AM Wednesday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
