Glenn Wingert

Glenn A. Wingert, 91, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday evening, August 11, 2013 at his home. Born August 18, 1921 in St. Thomas, PA, he was a son of the late Edward B. and Esther C. Burkhart Wingert. Mr. Wingert owned and operated Wingert’s Village Auto Sales for 36 years. He was currently a member of St. James United Brethren Church and a former member of St. John’s United Methodist Church for forty-seven years where he taught Sunday School for many years. Mr. Wingert enjoyed gardening and reading. His beloved wife, Helen Souders Wingert, whom he married September 13, 1941, preceded him in death on February 20, 2009.

He is survived by three daughters, Nancy L. Heckman and husband Ed of Chambersburg, Brenda J. Crider and husband Daryl of Greencastle, and Susan C. Wingert of Chambersburg; a son, Edward A. Wingert and wife Delores of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Rice of Chambersburg and Mary C. Wadel of Scotland; three brothers, Marvin R. Wingert of Carlisle, Harold W. Wingert and Raymond L. Wingert, both of Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Merle Wingert; and a sister, Cora E. Brechbill.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 16, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Murray Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to St. James United Brethren Church, 2404 Warm Spring Road, or Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, both in Chambersburg, PA 17202.
