Glenn Wise

February 3, 1939 — January 24, 2017

Glenn D. Wise, 77, of Willow Hill, PA, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday evening, January 24, 2017 at York Hospital. Born February 3, 1939 in Greencastle, he was the son of the late George and Catherine Johnson Wise. Glenn attended school in Greencastle and was a 1957 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School. He went on to earn a degree from Shippensburg State Teacher’s College in 1961 and taught mathematics in the Tuscarora Area School District for 35 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Shady Pine Mennonite Church and enjoyed singing with the Cumberland Valley Christian Choir; the Newburg Living Christmas Tree; the Antrim Christmas Choir; the Men’s Redeemed Quartet; the Newburg Men Choir; and with the Shady Pine Worship Team. He enjoyed spending time with his family and in the mountain. He was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy M. Hampton Wise, whom he married June 4, 1960; three daughters, Susan Deputy and husband Glenn of Harrisonburg, VA, Lois Ndlovu and husband Scotch of Washington, DC, and Brenda Wise of Dry Run; his son, Daniel A. Wise and wife Carrie of Dauphin, PA; nine grandchildren, Tyler, Leah, and Olivia Deputy, Michael, Nathan, and Kyla Ndlovu, Joseph and Daniel Shope, and Elizabeth Wise; two great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Miles Deputy; and two siblings, Arthur Wise and wife Betty of Sarasota, FL and Dortha Neil of Marion, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Leigh Ann Shope; and two sisters, Agnes Frey and Elizabeth Rheam.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Shady Pine Mennonite Church, Willow Hill, PA. Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil will officiate. Interment will follow at Upper Path Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday and from 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday at the church.
