Gloria P. Nicola, 76, of Fayetteville, PA, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 11, 1936 in Warren, PA, she was a daughter of the late Hildore and Signe Larson Peterson. Following graduation from high school, Gloria continued her education at the former Edinboro State Teacher’s College where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. While attending Edinboro she participated in the school’s synchronized swimming program. She taught school early in her life in Needmore, PA and in Florida. She later retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot. Gloria was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Shippensburg, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Hume-McNeil-Byers AMVEST Post 224 Ladies Auxiliary, both in Chambersburg. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with her family. Her husband, William S. Nicola, whom she married June 18, 1960, preceded her in death on April 24, 1994.
She is survived by three children, Mark A. Nicola and wife Tonja, Beth Ann Nicola, and Stephen W. Nicola, all of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren, Miranda, Gabriella, Tabby, and Tia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delores; and two brothers, Donald and Lloyd.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, January 21, 2013 at Norland Cemetery with Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. The will be no public viewing.
