Grandon Warren Harding Carmack, age 94, of Chambersburg, died Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Chambersburg Hospital following an acute illness. Born in Three Springs, PA, he was a son of the late Harvey and Naomi Stevens Carmack. A graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mr. Carmack served during WWII with the US Army Infantry on Leyte Island in the Philippines. Professionally he was an upholsterer and owned and operated Carmack’s Upholstry Shop for 65 years having worked up to and including the day his illness began. He was a member of The Brethren Fellowship and Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and being with his family. His beloved wife of fifty years, Betty Cordell Carmack, preceded him in death in 1992.
He is survived by four sons, Grandon H. and wife Rita of Chambersburg, Robert L. and wife Marion of Waynesboro, Donald E. and wife Karen of Chambersburg, and David R. of Chambersburg; three daughters, Nancy Carmack, Rhonda Morales Solis, and Kimberly Kopp, all of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Vaughn and Merle “Sonny” Carmack, both of Chambersburg; and three sisters, Annalee Sellers of Fayetteville, Wanda Morelock of Chambersburg, and Shirley Murray of St. Thomas. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Reno Carmack; and two sisters, Leona Piper and Juanita Shatzley.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Lincoln Cemetery with Rev. Manny Diaz officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA.
