Grant Gsell

April 12, 1924 — February 15, 2013

Grant S. Gsell, age 88, of Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Upper Strasburg, PA, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013 in the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center. Born April 12, 1924 in Marion, PA, he was the son of the late Grant M. and Florence Statler Gsell.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Gsell served honorably in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Gsell worked as a floor Mechanic at the former P. Nicklas and Sons Company in Chambersburg for 38 years, retiring in 1990. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, flowers, all animals, and birds. He raised Pheasants, wood ducks, and wild turkeys, as a hobby. Mr. Gsell volunteered at the Mountainside Pet Rescue and Cemetery, in Upper Strasburg, PA. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 606 in Ft. Loudon, PA.
Surviving is his sister, Terry Ambrose of Chambersburg, a daughter, Carol Jean Smyers (husband Bill) of Carlisle, PA, a brother in law, Wilbur Armstrong of Chambersburg, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Reginald Gsell, Robert Gsell, Betty Gsell Hock, and Patricia Gsell Armstong.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202; where Pastor Denise Horn will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Marion, PA. The family requests the omission of flowers, and requests contributions in his name to the Mountainside Pet Rescue and Cemetery, 7705 Upper Horse Valley Rd., Upper Strasburg, PA 17265.
