Gwendoline Romaine Diehl, 93, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 in Brookview Menno Haven. Born June 10, 1929 in Coaldale, PA she was the daughter of the late Earl and Roxie M. (Spencer) Thomas.
She was a talented seamstress working for various places including J. Schoeneman-Stanley Company for over 15 years. Gwen was also a cashier at K-Mart for several years. Her most important job was caring for her husband and family.
Gwen took great joy in supporting her husband and family. Flowers and gardening were her passions. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg where she taught Good News Bible Class for many years alongside her husband. Gwen had a great knowledge of the Bible and looked forward to the day she would meet her Savior and be reunited with her late husband, Abe.
She is survived by five children, Frances M. Horton-Ratliff of Chambersburg, Samuel M. Horton (Sandra) of Fayetteville, Jacquelyn A. Black of East Stroudsburg, PA, Christine E. Gossert of Chambersburg, and Abram Mark Diehl (Lisa) of Carlisle, PA; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nine siblings, Nelda Jean Meck, Elouise Moore, Judy Snavely, Helen Elder, Debbie Abbott, Earl “Bud” Thomas, Tom Thomas, James Thomas, and David Thomas. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Abram Myers Diehl who passed away November 1, 2022; and a sister, Savannah Matthews.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg.
