H. Preston Byers

H. Preston Byers, 92, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 16, 1932 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Enos E. Byers and Mable M. Byers; and widower to the late Shirley A. Byers, who preceded him in death on June 9, 2024. 

Preston began his working life in the farming industry. He then moved on to selling farm and logging equipment alongside his brother, Paul Byers. He was also the territory manager for Oliver Tractor. He found a second career in the trucking industry, where he drove for numerous companies, with the most recent being Cressler Trucking out of Shippensburg, PA. In his younger years, Preston was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed wood working, farm horses, restoring horse drawn plows, and collecting anything Oliver Tractor. He was a member of New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church and the Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association. 

Preston is survived by three sons, Preston L. Byers of Harrisburg, PA, Keith A. Byers (Charette), of Waynesboro, PA and Troy D. Byers (Karen Kennerly), of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, Travis Byers, Megan Byers, Jonathan Byers (Diana), and Heidi Carr (Alec); three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Rose, Sean Preston and Jackson Wyatt. He was the last of eleven children. In addition to his parents, wife, and 10 siblings, Preston was preceded in death by two children, Cynthia Ann Kipe and Douglas Charles Byers. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, where Rev. Lawton Jacobs will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Private interment will take place in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
