Harold Bennett

September 24, 1934 — February 1, 2021

Harold L. Bennett, 86, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Monday evening, February 1, 2020 at his home. Born September 24, 1934 in Three Springs, he was a son of the late Paul and Margaret Hamilton Bennett. A 1952 graduate of the Saltillo High School, he was employed early in his life at Letterkenny Army Depot. He transferred to Ft. Ritchie
In 1967 and was employed at Site R until his retirement in October of 1989. Mr. Bennett had attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Fayetteville and was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter C. He and his wife enjoyed riding motorcycles and wintering in Port Charlotte, FL. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates and enjoyed pitching horseshoes; spending time in the sunroom that he built; and more recently spending time playing computer games.

He is survived by his wife, Betty L. McMonigal Bennett, whom he married October 15, 1955; his son, Darrel L. Bennett and wife Vicki of Biglerville; his daughter, Vickie L. Olsen and husband Lars of Chambersburg; and two grandsons, Derek Bennett Boone and Ryan Michael Boone. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Brown and four brothers, John, Richard, Gene, and Dugan Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rodney L. Bennett on July 29, 2009; a sister, Edith Gebhart; two brothers, George and Paul Bennett; and a son-in-law, James W. Boone on December 19, 2011.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.

The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests memorial contributions in his memory be made to Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, 1249 Cocoa Avenue, Suite 115, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033 where the funds are used locally to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children and their families through superior care, comprehensive support and innovative research.

Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
