Harold Gunnells

Harold Stouffer "Snootch" Gunnells, age 68, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012 after a brief illness. Harold was born in Chambersburg on May 17, 1944 to the late Frank Owen and Elva Stouffer Gunnells.
He was a 1964 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School and entered the Navy after graduation. He was an airplane maintenance specialist on the USS Hancock during the Viet Nam war. Upon his discharge from the service, he was a Journey Mechanic at James River Corporation in Chambersburg until his retirement in August 1999. He was a member of VFW Post #1599, American Legion Post #46, Am Vets Post# 224 and the Chambersburg Club.
Harold loved attending all kinds of sporting events and followed the local high school teams. You would always find him in attendance at the Shippensburg PIAA track and field championships. After his retirement he became an avid golfer and could be found traveling to many local courses and frequently to Myrtle Beach SC with his “golfing buddies.” Harold should be remembered for enjoying life, golf, sports and spending time with his grandchildren in Florida. He also was very talented as a cabinet maker and trouble shooting for home repairs for family and friends.
Harold is survived by his wife, Roxanne DeWalt Gunnells who he married in 1992; three daughters to a previous marriage: Heather Darus, Holly Bennett and Heidi Bon; 6 grandchildren- 4 grandsons, Jarrett, Zachacy, Zaidan and Luke and 2 granddaughters, Jordan and Anna Grace, all residing in Florida; and a sister, Avis Guise (husband Larry) of Chambersburg.
A memorial service will be held at 2PM on Friday, January 4, 2013 in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd. Chambersburg, with visitation 2 hours prior to the service. Rev. Dick Williams will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where members of the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Ave. or the American Heart Association, Franklin/Fulton Division, 417 Phoenix Dr. Suite A, both of Chambersburg, PA 17201.
