Harold Lowry Herman, Jr., 78, of Chambersburg, passed away on November 23, 2023 after a long battle with Dementia. Born July 24, 1945, he was the son of the late Charlotte Wagner Herman and Harold L. Herman, Sr.
Harold graduated from CASHS in 1963. A US Navy veteran, he served as an electronics technician during the Vietnam War, returning to Chambersburg where he finished his bachelor’s degree at Shippensburg University. For most of his working life he was employed by the Department of Defense, US Army, in information technology, working at Ft. Ritchie and Ft. Detrick. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Shippensburg. His volunteer work included tutoring for the Literacy Council, serving his church as church treasurer and Chairman of the Board of the Episcopal Square in Shippensburg. Harold sang his whole life from high school, community theater, Sounds of the Decades, Mercersburg Chorus and in church choirs. He also studied oboe for many years. Harold loved to travel and was always ready for an adventure, especially when it involved a cruise!
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anne Coffin Herman; daughter, Elaine Paszkowski (Paul) of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Ethan and Bethany Paszkowski; two siblings, Judy Mitchell (Jim) of Chambersburg, and Larry Herman (Marita) of Mechanicsburg; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Huber.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 1, 2023 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 204 E. Burd Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257. The Rev. Barbara Hutchinson will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Parish Life Center beginning at 10:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at the above address or to the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 300 Ridgeview, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
