Harriet B. Pennabaker, 61, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday, April 29, 2019 at ManorCare Health Services. Born October 6, 1957 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Miller Hess. She was a 1975 graduate of the James Buchanan High School and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Slippery Rock University in 1979. Harriett went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Slippery Rock University and a second Master’s Degree in Special Education from Shippensburg University. She taught Special Education at Greencastle-Antrim Elementary School for thirty-one years, retiring in 2015. She attended Scotland United Methodist Church and was a member of the Chambersburg Moose and VFW Post 1599. She was devoted to her family and was a dedicated teacher. She loved traveling with her husband in their RV throughout the country. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach, dancing, music, and making Halloween costumes. An animal lover, she will be missed by her pet mastiff, Diesel. She will be remembered by many for her generosity and as being a caring caregiver.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jerry Pennabaker, whom she married September 24, 1983; her son, Cody Pennabaker of Chambersburg; and her sisters Maryann Moschgat and Lenora Short, both of Chambersburg.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Harriett’s life at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 10, 2019 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
