Harry Leroy “Dick” McAllen, 96, of Chambersburg and formerly of Path Valley passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2012 joining his beloved wife, Nora Worley whom he married December 30, 1939. Born January 30, 1916 in Fannettsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Donald and Sadie Traxler McAllen.
Early in Dick’s life he worked at the CC Camp at Cowan’s Gap, then on to Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown, MD, and then to T.B. Wood’s Company in Chambersburg, where he retired as a supervisor in the Machine Shop. A gifted handyman, Dick lent his skills as a volunteer for many years at both the Fannettsburg Ruritan mowing the ball field, helping with the chicken BBQ, and making repairs, where it has been said, “If Dick can’t fix it, no one can”. He also volunteered many years at the Lower Path Valley Presbyterian Church. Dick was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, as well as trips on his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his beloved wife, Nora. Dick was a member of the Fannettsburg Ruritan, lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association, the NRA, and a past member of the Ft. Loudon American Legion, the Landis-McCleaf Marine Corps League, and the Moose Lodge.
Surviving is his daughter, Joan Goshorn (husband Paul) of Chambersburg, PA, two grandsons, Ronald Goshorn of Spring Run, PA and Donald Goshorn (wife Lisa) of Chambersburg, PA; grandaughter-in-law, Kathy Elsbach, wife of the late Edwin Goshorn; two great grandchildren, Edwin “E.P.” Goshorn (wife Sheila) and Madison Elsbach; two great - great grandchildren, Tressa and Trista Goshorn; and a sister, Nancy Umbrell (husband Jack); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 2 PM at the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main Street, Dry Run, PA; where Rev. Donna Ryan will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Upper Path Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Lower Path Valley Presbyterian Church, 18072 Fannettsburg Rd. E., Fannettsburg, PA 17221.
