Harry Joseph Ubele, 91, of Collegeville, PA, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Paramount Senior Living in Fayetteville, PA. Born February 7, 1932 in Philadelphia he was the second of four sons born to the late Russell Noll and Jamesina Smith Ubele. Mr. Ubele graduated from Frankford High School in 1950 and voluntarily enlisted in the US Army in 1952 where he served as a Combat Infantryman for 13 months on the front lines in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He then attended Drexel University on the GI Bill graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and subsequently went on to earn a Master’s of Science Degree from Drexel University in Electrical Engineering. He met Sandra Joyce Williman, whom would eventually become his bride, at a dance in Philadelphia in 1958 and they were married on July 2, 1960. Together they raised four children spending the early years in Bensalem, PA with the majority of their married life spent in Buckingham, PA.
Mr. Ubele worked for Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) as an Engineering Project Manager on NASA’s Gemini space program. He later joined the Department of Defense and worked at the Naval Air Development Center (NADC) in Warminster, PA. While at NADC his main projects included the EC-130 and E6A aircraft supporting the Navy’s “Take Charge and Move Out” (TACAMO) program. Following his retirement from government service he continued to work as a defense contractor at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. He enjoyed snow skiing, history, traveling abroad, cruising, cooking, watching movies and documentaries. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a Philadelphia Eagles fan.
Mr. Ubele is survived by his wife Sandra; his brother Stanley; four children, Robin, Karen, Douglas, and David; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 17, 2023 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Ben Dunkelberger will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the service begins at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Private interment, with military honors, will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
