Harvey Meyers

July 29, 1928 — March 28, 2012

Harvey Mentzer Meyers, 83, of Chambersburg, PA, died Wednesday afternoon, March 28, 2012 at his home where he was born and raised. Born July 29, 1928 to the late Harvey F. and Susan Baer Mentzer Meyers, he attended school in Edenville. A farmer for almost sixty years, he was the third generation in his family to operate the family farm in St. Thomas Township which continues to operate today as a fifth generation farm. In 1996 he was awarded the Century Farm Award by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Harvey attended Crider’s United Brethren Church where he at one time taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School Superintendent. Harvey had a great love of nature and his hobbies included providing homes in his barn for barn owls. His wife, Mary E. Rohrer Meyers, whom he married February 26, 1949, preceded him in death on March 7, 2007.

He is survived by his daughter, Phoebe J. Conner and husband Jeffrey R.; his grandsons, Justin C. Conner and wife Susan and Jordan F. Conner and wife, Misty; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Preston, Hayden, and McKenzie, all of Chambersburg. He is also survived by three sisters, Mary Susan Frey of Elizabethtown, PA, Helen Stitziel of Dallas, TX, and Phoebe Anderson and husband Max of Costa Mesa, CA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund Meyers; and two sisters, Martha Witmer and Wilma Keller.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Crider’s United Brethren Church, 2380 Loudon Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Garnet H. Myers will officiate. Friends will be received immediately following the service in the church’s fellowship hall. Private interment in Salem Cemetery will be held prior to the service.
