Harvey West

Harvey Jacob West, age 82, of Amberson, PA passed away on December 17, 2013 at his home. Born February 17, 1931 in Orrstown, PA he was a son of the late Roy and Erma Cover West.

A veteran of the Korean War, Harvey served honorably in the U.S. Army. Harvey was a member of Amberson United Methodist Church. He worked as a carpenter and a tunnel guard for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission where he retired after 24 years of service. Harvey enjoyed restoring a saw mill over the last 15 years and wood working. He also enjoyed going to flea markets with his daughter-in-law and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Anna Mae Eckenrode West; three children, Jeremy Glenn West and wife Sally of Lurgan, PA, Nathan Linn West and wife Rebecca of Chambersburg, PA, and Ruth Ellen McMullen and husband David of Spring Run, PA; three grandchildren, Annamarie, Zebidian, and Silas West; one step-granddaughter, Nicole Johnson; and five siblings Nellie Russell of Shippensburg, PA, Lucy McNew of St. Thomas, PA, Ann Page of Martinsburg, WV, Dorothy Pyne of Newberg, PA, and Edgar West of Chambersburg, PA. Aside from his parents he is preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Amberson United Methodist Church, 18889 Amberson Road, Spring Run, PA 17210. Pastor Phil Foster will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Amberson Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, December 20, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main Street, Dry Run, PA 17220, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Harvey’s name to Amberson United Methodist Church at the above address, c/o Rita Glass.
