Hazel Myers

May 31, 1916 — October 18, 2014

Hazel Gipe Myers, age 98, of Chambersburg, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 31, 1916 in Guilford Township, she was the daughter of the late William Grove and Nellie Bard Gipe of Chambersburg.

A life time member of King Street United Brethren Church, where she became a member on March 27, 1922, she served for over forty years as a teacher in the children’s department of its Sunday School, and sang in the church worship choir for many years. She was a member of the Golden Links Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Fellowship as well as the Prime Timers Group. She was a 1934 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, where she was the class Valedictorian. Early in life she was employed as a secretary for T.B. Woods Sons Company after graduation. She later did part time work in the church office. She loved her flower garden and enjoyed reading and crocheting.

Surviving are two sons, Stephen C. Myers of Chambersburg, PA and Philip A. Myers (wife Ellen Kopeland) of Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Stephanie M. Helgeson (husband Col. Stewart B. Helgeson, USMC) of Landisville, PA and John C. Myers (wife Gayle G.) of Pottstown, PA; four great- grandchildren, Stuart E., Sarah E. and Samantha B. Helgeson and Brooke A. Myers; two sister in laws, Jane B. Gipe wife of the late Harold B. Gipe and Rose Gipe wife of the late William G. Gipe, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and brothers, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold A. Myers, who died on February 6, 1996. They were married October 19, 1940 at King Street Church by the Rev. Dr. Clyde W. Meadows.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at King Street Church in Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Lester F. Stine and Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will be private in Norland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Student Grant Fund of King Street United Brethren Church, 162 East King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
