Hazel I. Strine Bernecker, 84, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 in her home surrounded by her family. Born August 3, 1939 in Chambersburg she was the daughter of the late Luther and Mae Sword Davis.
She was employed as a seamstress for Stanley Company, Chambersburg for a number of years. Hazel also was employed with the Vo Tech School and the Chambersburg Area School District. She was a lifelong member of St. James United Brethren Church where she served on the board. Hazel was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader for 12 years as well as a 4H Leader for 10 years. She loved oil painting, needle working, making quilts, and crafting. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor.
She is survived by two daughters, Cinda Gift and Janet Strine both of Chambersburg; three step-children, Dana Bernecker, Gerald Bernecker, and Ruth Fuller; a granddaughter, Melinda Leidig and her husband Josh; a great-grandson Weston Leidig; five step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Helen Thomas; a number of nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Rosebud. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband, Rodney Strine; second husband, David Bernecker; and three siblings, Garnet Davis, John Henry Davis, and Mable Alleman.
Services will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, January 19, 2024 in St. James United Brethren Church, 2398 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Rev. Murray B. Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday afternoon in the church.
