Helen Bard

Helen L. Bard, age 88, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014 at ManorCare Health Services. Born May 3, 1926 in Bedford, PA, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Flora Barbour Deshong.

A 1945 graduate of the former Hustontown High School, Helen went on to complete course work at Chambersburg Business College in 1947. She worked as a marketing coordinator at T.B. Wood and Sons for 38 years until her retirement in 1989. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and camping in their motorhome and spent quite a few winters in Florida. Helen also enjoyed cooking, and reading. She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church for 61 years.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Clarence R. Bard, whom she married on July 5, 1949; her daughter, Candace Curie and husband Charles of Gaithersburg, MD; two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 17, 2014 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Samaritan Fund at King Street Church, 162 E. King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to Meals on Wheels of Chambersburg, 43 West Washington Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
