Helen Maye Boyer, 87, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday, August 29, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 7, 1935 in McConnellsburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Rush A. Kerlin, Sr. and Arrie Oella Seiders Kerlin. She retired in 1991 as an Assistant Supervisor with Chevron. Mrs. Boyer was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chambersburg where she actively volunteered with numerous church activities and in the church office. While living in California, she was active with Grace United Methodist Church and headed the Bolivian Handicraft Mission. She also liked spending time at the family cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Mrs. Boyer enjoyed knitting, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, and golfing. Her husband, Richard E. Boyer, whom she married on May 24, 1955, preceded her in death on February 25, 1997.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Diane Boyer of Chambersburg and Rebecca Ann Leidig and husband Jess of Chambersburg; her sons, James Willis Boyer and wife Kathleen of Palm Desert, CA and Richard Earl Boyer, Jr. of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Joshua Boughner, John Boughner, Adam Boyer, William Maple, Matthew Maple, and Samantha Herrington; and six great-grandchildren, Logan, Connor, Gavin, Adalyn, Zoë, and Avaree. She is also survived by two brothers, Rush Kerlin, Jr. of Ellenwood, GA and Clarence Kerlin of McConnellsburg; a sister, Martha Unger of Carlisle; and close family friends Denae and Danielle Bain of the San Francisco Bay area. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Mack, and two brothers, William and Donald Kerlin.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 2, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Dr. A Robert Cook and Rev. Carl Kniss will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until service begin at 10:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
