Helen S. Cowan, 95, of Fannettsburg, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 26, 1922, in Willow Hill, she was a daughter of the late Claude Harrison and Clara Bell Steck Shoop. Her beloved husband, Donald L. “Dutch” Cowan, preceded her in death on January 14, 1989.
Helen was employed most of her life as a cook at several area restaurants. She enjoyed cooking, baking homemade pies, playing her guitar and bird watching. Helen spent a lot of her time over the years taking care of elderly people.
She is survived by one daughter, Wanda Miley and husband Kenny of Willow Hill; two grandchildren, Robert Miley and wife Tiffany of Amberson, and Melissa Miley of Chambersburg; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Klarissa Miley; two step-daughters; niece, Betty Barroner; nephew, Johnny Deck; and numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John Bill and Mack; and three sisters, Margaret, Nellie, and Fannie.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 29, 2018, in the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main Street, Dry Run, PA 17220. Rev. Darwin Goshorn and Rev. Phil Foster will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at Carrick United Methodist Church, 7003 Path Valley Rd, Fort Loudon, PA 17224.
