During her secondary school years, Helen rode her bicycle to school while transporting a cello. In her adult life, she played harmonica, concertina and organ.

A loving and dedicated wife, she married the late Larry I. Decker on November 15, 1969. They shared over forty wonderful years of marriage until his death on November 13, 2010. Helen was preceded in death by a brother, William W. Stewart, Jr. and wife Phyllis, and two sisters, Pauline Stewart and Margaret (Stewart) Fahnestock and husband Raymond.
