Helen Gontz

Helen L. Gontz, 97, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 13, 1926 in Greencastle, she was a daughter of the late Spirdie and Blanche (Gearhart) Starliper. Her beloved husband, Delbert H. Gontz, preceded her in death on April 5, 1999.

Helen spent most of her adult life making a home for her family. She was a member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg. Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, cooking, camping, going to the beach and taking bus trips. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Delbert L. Gontz and wife Ruby of Chambersburg, Garry E. Gontz and wife Vicki of Chambersburg, and Gregory D. Gontz and wife Denise of South Pasadena, CA; eleven grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, and great–great grandchildren. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Terry L. Gontz and Linda L. Kuhn; four sisters, Pauline, Lily, Kathleen, and Mary Ellen; and five brothers, Paul, Eugene, Clayton, Floyd, and Henry.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM on Thursday, April 20, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. David Grove will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 8:30 – 9:30 AM prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
