Helen M. Hill, age 82, of Spring Run, PA, passed away on Monday morning, February 9, 2015 at her home. Born October 6, 1932 in Chambersburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Ruth Reed Flora and was raised by her grandparents, George and Minnie Reed.
Helen was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of Amberson United Methodist Church, The McCartney Post 232 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and NARFE. She enjoyed antiquing, going to the beach, shopping, crocheting, needle point, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by eleven children, Wanda Bollinger (Joseph) of Chambersburg, Dorothy Martin (Ronald) of Mercersburg, Kathy Clough (Charles) of Shippensburg, Sandra Greenawalt (Edgar) of Amberson, Shelby Coble (Victor) of York Haven, Thomas Elmes, Jr. (Lois) of Spring Run, Timothy Elmes (Chandra) of McConnellsburg, Edwin Hill of Willow Hill, Debra Harry (Milo) of Blairs Mills, Kenneth Hill (Penny) of Blairs Mills, and William Baker (Barbara) of Shippensburg; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Margaret Susan Fike of Chambersburg. Aside from her mother and grandparents, Helen is preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas W. Elmes, Sr.; her second husband, William E. Hill; her brother, John Flora; and a sister, Dorothy Harrison.
A funeral service to honor Helen’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Amberson United Methodist Church, 18889 Amberson Road, Amberson, PA 17210. Pastor Ronald Martin, Edgar Greenawalt, and Rev. Phillip Foster will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Upper Path Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amberson United Methodist Church at the above address.
